The price of popcorn at the Toronto Stadium has become the latest criticism of World Cup prices as in-game refreshments become the growing talking point of the tournament.

World Cup organisers are facing growing criticism over prices, with supporters accusing venues of extortionate prices that vary from one matchday venue to the next.

Reports from the US, Canada and Mexico have highlighted sharp differences between host cities, including beer, bottled water and a brisket sandwich.

When you consider many fans have already paid heavily for tickets, travel and accommodation, the added cost of attending World Cup games seems increasingly excessive.

FIFA has said prices reflect regular event pricing set by local concession operators, but that explanation has done little to calm supporters who feel the World Cup is drifting further from ordinary fans.

World Cup fan charged $13 for popcorn at Toronto Stadium

One World Cup supporter took to social media to highlight the price he had paid for a mediocre-looking bag of popcorn at Senegal vs Iraq.

Reaching out to popular X account @FootyScran, famous for reviewing in-game refreshments at football games around the world, users were quick to respond.

One user replied: “That ridiculous price aside, they don’t even look good, they look cold and damp.”

Another added: “Scam not scran.” Another said: “€8 for a handful of corn. No sir, this is not scran.”

It’s worth noting that $13 in Canada roughly converts to just under £7 which doesn’t sound quite as bad, but it seems World Cup fans are growing increasingly tired of the costs associated with the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
