The victim’s father, Mohd Firuz Ibrahim, 43, said he was at work when the incident occurred and only realised later that he had missed several calls from the school informing him about what had happened.

“I was sorting parcels at the time and didn’t realise my phone was ringing. When I returned the school’s call, I thought my daughter was simply unwell. I never imagined she had become the victim of a stabbing.

“So far, I have been informed that the medical team is working to drain blood from my daughter’s left lung. She is in stable condition and is still able to speak,” said Mohd Firuz, who works as a deliveryman, when met at Banting Hospital today.

He also expressed regret over the incident and urged the school to tighten its security measures to prevent a recurrence.

He said he had been informed that the suspect was his daughter’s classmate in Form Two and is currently on leave from school to undergo treatment.

“I think my daughter may not have been the suspect’s intended target. Perhaps the suspect was after someone else, but my daughter happened to be the closest and didn’t have time to run, so she became the victim,” he said.

Earlier, the Selangor Education Department, in a statement, said that the suspect, believed to have stabbed a female student at a school in Banting, Kuala Langat, this morning, had been arrested by police.

The department also said the injured student is receiving treatment at Banting Hospital.
