The cost of following a team across North America at the 2026 World Cup has become one of the tournament’s defining stories, and now a group of traveling Scotland fans have put a startling number on it.
The expense of the tournament has been a major talking point since kickoff, with flights, accommodation, match tickets and stadium food all adding up. But just how much does a trip to follow Scotland in the United States actually set a supporter back?
A handful of Tartan Army members have offered a brutally honest answer, revealing the sums they have spent to be there in person. The totals climb well into five figures, and at least one admission came with a confession he would rather his family did not hear.

Scotland fans reveal the eye-watering cost of their World Cup trip
Following a World Cup spread across the United States, Canada and Mexico was always going to be costly. The distances are enormous, the host cities are pricey, and ticket prices have soared since the group stage began.
For the Scotland supporters who made the journey, the final bill has been sobering. One fan, speaking in a clip posted to X, broke down exactly where his money had gone — and admitted not everyone in his household was in the loop. He said: “It cost me £4,500 on accommodation, £4,400 in tickets, £2,500 in flights, my wife doesn’t know this. This is how much it costs to come to the World Cup 2026.”
That single trip tops £11,000, comfortably into five-figure territory.
He was not alone. Another supporter in the same clip put his own outlay in equally blunt terms, suggesting the numbers had stopped being remotely amusing.
He added: “So much money, it’s not even funny, about 10 grand.”
And those figures may only get steeper. Despite rows of empty seats at several group games, World Cup ticket prices are still climbing, with the get-in price for the remaining matches rising by a median of 70 percent in the space of a single week.
For supporters who have drained their savings, hidden the receipts from their partners and crossed an ocean to be there, the least they will be hoping for is a team worth the money.
After an outlay like that, the Tartan Army has earned a few performances to remember over the next few weeks.
