Scottie Scheffler seriously struggled during his third round at Aronimink and failed to get any momentum going all day long.

Scheffler has struggled with his swing throughout the entire season.

It’s a sign of his incredible ability that he has managed to contend so regularly, given how far off his swing has been this year.

Scheffler is still in contention to win the PGA Championship, but there is no doubt that huge improvements will be required on Sunday.

Scheffler highlighted the difficulty of the pins at the PGA Championship on Friday, and while they were slightly easier on Saturday, the world number one still found the going very tough.

He posted a second consecutive round of 71 to leave him at one-under par for the tournament, four strokes adrift of the third-round leader, Alex Smalley.

Scheffler spoke to reporters after his third round at Aronimink on Saturday.

After his struggles on day three of the PGA Championship, the 29-year-old responded when asked what wasn’t working for him.

I think the golf course is just challenging, Scheffler admitted.

There’s extremely high winds. There’s a lot of pitch on the greens, so there’s not a ton of opportunities for birdie.

I felt like I did a good job today kind of hanging in there. Yeah, hit some good shots, hit a lot of good putts that are kind of right around the edge. It’s kind of like a little bit of a dice roll at times when you have so much slope and so much wind.

So my thoughts on today is, if I continue to do what I’m doing and hole a few more putts, then I think I’ll be in a good spot when tomorrow ends.

Scheffler was then asked what he makes of the bunched leaderboard at Aronimink.

Firstly, I’ve never seen anything like this, he replied.

When we were out there, I think it’s just the nature of a lot of different things, but yeah, I’ve never seen a leaderboard like this, this bunched up.

Going into tomorrow, it’s quite literally anybody’s tournament. There’s a lot of guys that have a chance.

Going into tomorrow, just somebody is going to have a great round, and I’m going to make sure to do my best to give myself my best shot at being the one who has a great round.

Scottie Scheffler stats from day three at the PGA Championship

Scheffler drove the ball decently well on Saturday at Aronimink and was ranked 10th in strokes gained off the tee.

However, he struggled with all other departments of his game.

Scheffler was ranked 40th in strokes gained approach and 51st in strokes gained around the green on Saturday.

However, the worst club in the bag was his putter, and he was ranked 73rd in strokes gained on the greens.

Scheffler will undoubtedly need to improve his iron play and his putting, if he is to have any chance of winning the PGA Championship on Sunday.
