Scottie Scheffler has already compiled a stunning honors list at the age of 29, which includes four major wins.

Scheffler has won The Masters twice and the PGA Championship and The Open Championship once each, needing just the US Open to complete the career Grand Slam.

That could arrive at Shinnecock Hills next month, but the world number one is first eyeing success at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Scheffler is the defending champion at TPC Craig Ranch this week, ahead of which he offered advice to his younger self.

Scottie Scheffler says he took himself ‘too seriously’ earlier in his career

As per the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Instagram, Scheffler said what the event means to him: “Yeah, I mean this event means a lot to me. It’s my hometown event.

“I grew up coming to this tournament as a kid, and to have Mr. Nelson’s name on it is very special, and being able to carry on his legacy and compete here is a lot of fun.”

And sharing advice to his teenage self when he played at the event for the first time, he said: “Yeah, I would say just try to enjoy it as much as possible.

“You know, competing is a ton of fun, and I felt like at a young age I took myself almost too seriously, and I kind of rode too many highs and lows in the game.

“And I wish I would have kind of taken it a little bit easier on myself. So just enjoy it.”

Scottie Scheffler grateful for his friends in golf

It may be somewhat of a regret for Scheffler, but it’s fair to say that he can have very few complaints about how his career has turned out.

He is currently seeking his 21st PGA Tour win this week, and will be full of confidence given his eight-stroke victory at last year’s tournament.

However, he highlighted a different area when selecting the most rewarding part of his phenomenal journey so far.

“I mean, being able to compete out here is such a treat,” said Scheffler. “I’ve got a lot of great friends who I grew up in the game of golf that I’m still competing with out here today.

“Just have a lot of great friendships and a lot of being able to compete with these guys on a daily basis.”

Scheffler is clearly grateful for such friendships, but he will undoubtedly be putting them to one side again this week.

He headlines the CJ Cup Byron Nelson field, which also includes his fellow Americans Jordan Spieth and Brooks Koepka.

Scheffler enters the latest PGA Tour event with one win from his 10 starts in 2026, having finished within the top 25 in all 10.
