Sean O’Malley is set to sit down with UFC officials in Las Vegas this week to figure out what comes next in his fighting career.

The former bantamweight champion remains one of the biggest names in MMA, though he doesn’t seem to have a clear idea of what the UFC has planned for him. After losing his title to Merab Dvalishvili and then falling short in the immediate rematch, O’Malley got back on track with a win earlier this year.

O’Malley’s victory over Song Yadong, which came during the first UFC event broadcast on Paramount, put him back into conversations around a title shot. He already holds a win over current champion Petr Yan, and that could help his case as he looks to climb back into contention.

Sean O’Malley, one of the biggest names in the UFC, has been largely left out of discussions about his schedule for this year. Despite his interest, he doesn’t appear to be part of the plans for the upcoming UFC White House event.

Speaking with The Schmo ahead of a busy week capped by UFC 326 in Las Vegas, O’Malley shared that he hopes to get some answers soon. When asked if he’d be next in line for Petr Yan’s belt once Yan recovers from back surgery, O’Malley said: “I don’t know.”

“I haven’t talked to the UFC. I don’t know what is going on,” he said. “White House card? Petr’s out? I don’t know what is going on to be honest. I have to talk to the UFC, I’m going to go and talk to them on March 6.”

“I don’t know if I’m going to learn anything but I’m going to go and chat to them,” he continued. “I’m going to go to Vegas, watch the fights and I’m excited.”

Yan has expressed interest in a rematch with O’Malley since their first fight ended in a controversial split decision win for O’Malley back in October 2022. Now that Yan holds the title again, it could set up a natural headline fight between them.
