THE Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has opened the application process for the successor of Associate Justice Amyjhk Lazaro-Javier, who will retire in November.
The JBC is now accepting applications and recommendations for the vacancy, kicking off the formal selection process for one of the country’s most powerful judicial posts. Interested applicants must apply online through the JBC Online Registration and Application System (JBC O.RAS.) via the Philippine Judiciary Platform no later than 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 1. The council said that online registration is mandatory. Those who fail to submit their applications through the system will not be considered for nomination. The JBC will initially screen online submissions for completeness and accuracy. Qualified applicants will then be notified through their JBC dashboards and email accounts when to submit their complete hard-copy documentary requirements.Among the documents required are law school records, bar certifications, employment and service records, income tax returns for 2021 to 2025, and sworn statements of assets, liabilities and net worth. Applicants must also submit certifications on bank deposits and investments, along with an affidavit waiving confidentiality and bank-deposit secrecy. The JBC will require records of pending or decided civil, criminal and administrative cases, work samples, medical examinations and clearances from government agencies, the judiciary, the Philippine National Police, the National Bureau of Investigation, Ombudsman and Integrated Bar of the Philippines. After screening and evaluation, the JBC will prepare its shortlist of nominees for submission to the president, who will appoint Lazaro-Javier’s successor.
