Second drowning victim found after rescue attempt at Pantai Sura Tengah

The body of a man who drowned trying to save his sister at a Terengganu beach has been recovered, a day after the first victim was found.

DUNGUN: The body of the second victim of a drowning incident at Pantai Sura Tengah has been found.

Dungun police chief Superintendent Maizura Abdul Kadir said rescuers discovered the body of Mohd Fazir Shafie, 37, at 12.35 am.

His body was located about one kilometre from where he was last seen.

The body was sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for a post-mortem.

The incident occurred at 10.27 am yesterday when Mohd Fazir attempted to rescue his 39-year-old sister, Nor Baizura, from drowning.

Both siblings were swept away by strong currents.

Nor Baizura’s body was recovered earlier at 10.54 am yesterday.

The pair had returned to their village for the holidays and were picnicking with 13 other family members.

Nor Baizura was a housewife from Johor Bahru.

Mohd Fazir worked as a lorry driver in Kuantan. – Bernama
