SECURITY around Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak has been stepped up to ensure comprehensive protection following an attempted attack on the ruler during the state-level National Day celebrations on 31 August.

Perak Palace Security Committee Chairman Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja General (R) Tan Sri Dr Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin said a committee meeting involving palace personnel was held to coordinate and reinforce security measures to prevent a recurrence of the incident.

"We have enhanced security measures, especially during events involving Tuanku and the royal family on the main stage,” he said at a press conference during the Perak State Awards Ceremony marking the 69th Birthday of Sultan Nazrin, held at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building on Thursday.

Despite the incident, Mohd Zahidi noted that Sultan Nazrin has continued to show his approachable and friendly nature, interacting with people from all walks of life.

He added that the public would not face difficulties when seeking permission to meet or take photographs with the ruler, particularly at official events.

"If it is done in an orderly and proper manner, Tuanku Sultan Perak will certainly not hesitate to grant permission for photographs. Furthermore, if children wish to take pictures with the Sultan or Raja Permaisuri Perak (Tuanku Zara Salim), they are never refused as they both have a fondness for children," he said.

Earlier reports noted that a woman had been charged under Section 352 of the Penal Code for committing criminal violence against Sultan Nazrin. During the National Day celebrations in Perak last August, a woman was detained for breaching the main stage and attempting to attack the Sultan while the state anthem was being played. - November 7, 2025
