The Army on Wednesday evening seized narcotics and a Chinese pistol near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, following which security forces intensified area domination and vigil in the region.

During a domination operation in the forward Balakote sector near the LoC, Army personnel recovered a concealed bag containing a Chinese pistol and two yellow polyethylene-wrapped packets filled with narcotics.

Earlier in the day, security agencies also recovered 3 kg of heroin from the Bishnah area along the IB in Jammu district.

The recovery in Poonch comes at a time when security forces are conducting extensive search operations following intelligence inputs about the presence of a group of ultras in the district.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Rajouri-Poonch Range, Sandeep Wazir, along with senior officers, on Thursday visited the forward LoC village of Salotri in Poonch to review the prevailing security scenario and operational preparedness in the border belt.

During the visit, the DIG interacted with police personnel deployed in forward areas and reviewed security arrangements, deployment patterns and coordination mechanisms aimed at maintaining peace and vigilance along the border.

He also assessed the preparedness of police personnel and stressed the need for heightened alertness, seamless coordination among security agencies and proactive policing in sensitive areas. Appreciating the commitment of personnel performing duties under challenging conditions, the DIG directed them to continue discharging their responsibilities with professionalism and dedication.

“The visit reflects the commitment of district police towards strengthening security measures, maintaining peace in border areas and ensuring effective policing in forward villages along the LoC,” a police spokesperson said.

On May 12, the Army killed an intruder in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch after troops detected suspicious movement. Security vigil in the district has been intensified since then, as intelligence agencies suspect that multiple Pakistan-trained terrorists may attempt to infiltrate from launch pads located close to the border.
