Sedco has no plans for permanent Putatan business site

Kota Kinabalu: Sedco has no plans at present to develop a permanent business site in Putatan but remains open to future collaboration if the need arises, the State Legislative Assembly was told on Wednesday.

Deputy Chief Minister and Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said this in reply to Tanjung Keramat assemblyman Shah Alfie Yahya Ahmad Shah, who asked whether the Ministry planned to establish a structured and conducive permanent trading site for local traders in the district.

Ewon said Sedco was always prepared to cooperate should such a need arise in future, adding that current information from the Putatan District Office showed the district has five temporary trading sites and two permanent trading sites.

He said the temporary sites comprise Servay Putatan, BSN Putatan, Golden Centre Putatan, Petagas (Kampung Muhibbah) and an open space near Restoran Zaitun, while the permanent sites are Putatan Tamu Market and Putatan Handicraft Market.

Responding to a supplementary question on vendor selection guidelines, Ewon said the process falls under the jurisdiction of the Putatan District Council, while licensing is subject to the existing licensing ordinance, with Ministry assistance programmes following their own criteria and methods.
