SHAH ALAM, May 4 - Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or MBI, sponsored the Barebow Asia 2026 Championship held at the Panasonic National Sports Complex here, further strengthening the development of archery in the state.
The third edition of the tournament, which began on April 29, concluded yesterday, with Malaysia hosting the event through the National Archery Association of Malaysia (NAAM). The competition brought together more than 700 athletes from 14 Asian countries.
MBI chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the organisation provided various forms of sponsorship, including financial contributions and meals for athletes throughout the tournament.
“This is the first time the event is being held in Malaysia and Selangor, with encouraging response from participating countries.
“We hope the barebow discipline will continue to gain recognition and has the potential to be featured in major multi-sport events such as the SEA Games and SUKMA,” he told Media Selangor.
Meanwhile, Malaysia recorded an impressive achievement by winning a total of nine medals - one gold, three silver and five bronze - across individual and team categories.
More notably, national athletes also made history by breaking the world record in the men’s team category with a score of 1,864 points.
