SHAH ALAM, July 1 — Selangor today confirmed that the Flexi Parking system used by 64 local authorities nationwide was hit by a cyberattack, and has instructed all councils to suspend parking summons enforcement while restoration work is underway.

Selangor Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim stressed that the disruption, which was first reported yesterday, is not a Selangor-specific issue.

“There was an issue yesterday and today involving the Flexi monitoring system. It’s not limited to Selangor — it involves 64 local authorities across the country. There was a problem affecting transaction data and related systems.

“It was hacked. We’re now working to restore the system. These two days, the public may experience difficulties paying for parking,” he said.

As a mitigation measure, Ng said local authorities have been instructed not to issue parking summonses during the disruption.

“We ask all PBTs to refrain from issuing compounds while the system is being restored,” he said.

Ng said the state government expects the system to be restored as soon as possible.

“Hopefully, if not today, then tomorrow. We want to resolve the issue and return the system to normal operations as quickly as possible,” he said.

The Flexi Parking system disruption was first reported yesterday, affecting users attempting to make digital parking payments in several areas.
