SELANGOR will observe Oct 25 as a public holiday to mark the 25th anniversary of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s accession to the throne, the state government said today.
Selangor state secretary Datuk Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the celebration will cover various areas, including community and religious activities, environmental sustainability, infrastructure development and sports.
"A total of 20 official programmes and events are scheduled to take place from Sept 28 to Nov 1, 2026, as a sign of loyalty, respect and gratitude from the entire administration and people under Sultan Sharafuddin's reign.
"All programmes have been presented to Sultan Sharafuddin, covering social and religious matters, environmental sustainability, infrastructure development and sports," he told a press conference.
To enable the people to join in celebrating His Royal Highness’s anniversary, the state government has designated October 25 as a public holiday throughout Selangor.
“As the date falls on a Sunday, the following day, Monday, October 26, will be observed as a replacement public holiday,” he said.
In line with Sultan Sharafuddin’s wish for restraint, Fadzli said the celebrations would be conducted on a modest scale rather than through lavish events.
Three main ceremonies will anchor the celebrations: a Guard of Honour inspection accompanied by a 21-gun salute, the Proclamation of Titles and Oath-Taking Ceremony, and the presentation of Selangor State Awards.
Other highlights include community activities such as visits to orphanages, the opening of an Autism Friendly Park, the Kita Run and a Royal Tea Party.
Religious programmes include a Yasin recitation and prayer gathering, as well as the Multaqa and Forum Perdana Ehwal Islam.
To commemorate the milestone, organisers will also launch commemorative stamps and envelopes, a special coin and a book titled Menjulang Takhta.
Sporting events planned in conjunction with the jubilee include the opening of the Selangor Polo and Equestrian Club, the Sultan of Selangor Silver Jubilee Cup Polo Tournament and an Under-15 Football League fixture.
According to Fadzli, several programmes throughout the celebration are also expected to be attended by the Sultan of Selangor and members of the royal family.
The Silver Jubilee celebration will conclude on November 1 with the Istiadat Menjunjung Duli, held in conjunction with the proclamation of titles for palace dignitaries and Dato’ Diraja Selangor, as well as the investiture ceremony for Selangor State Orders and Decorations. – September 11, 2026
