Selangor is expanding its Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera (BKS) voucher programme after applications came in below its 50,000-recipient target applications fell well short of its 50,000-recipient target.
As of the morning of 7 August, the state had received 18,889 applications. To fill the remaining places, it is widening eligibility beyond single-parent households.
From 8 August, married couples with a combined monthly income of RM5,000 or below can also apply. Successful applicants will receive RM100 a month for six months, worth a total of RM600.
Applying Is Now Simpler
The state is also removing the requirement for applicants to obtain a statutory declaration from a commissioner for oaths to prove their income or Selangor residency.
Selangor women empowerment and welfare committee chairman Anfaal Saari said many online applications may have stalled because supporting documents had not been completed, rather than because the eligibility rules were too strict.
Applicants must still be Malaysian citizens, registered voters living in Selangor, and have at least one child under 18. Only one person from each household can receive the aid, while existing Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor (Bingkas) recipients remain ineligible.
According to Anfaal, the state initially relied on pre-registered applicants from existing databases, including unsuccessful Bingkas applicants after that programme reached its quota. Applications will remain open until all 50,000 places have been filled.
Applications under the expanded criteria can be submitted through the BKS portal from 8 August.
