SHAH ALAM, July 8 - The state government is exploring a strategic partnership with the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) Indonesia to strengthen its mobility agenda and develop a more sustainable public transport system in Selangor.
State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said the matter was discussed during a meeting with ITDP Southeast Asia director Gonggomtua Sitanggang, which focused on sustainable urban mobility and public transport planning.
"ITDP, headquartered in New York, the United States, with its Southeast Asian operations based in Jakarta, is an international organisation that plays a key role in shaping sustainable transport policies in cities around the world.
"Collaboration with organisations such as ITDP Indonesia comes at the right time as Selangor strengthens its mobility agenda to develop a more integrated and people-centred transport system," he said in a Facebook post.
Ng added that the collaboration with ITDP Indonesia aligns with Selangor's efforts to advance its mobility agenda towards a transport system that is more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable for all.
One of the organisation's key achievements was its role as technical adviser in the development of TransJakarta, Asia's first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, which was launched in 2004 and has since become one of the world's leading BRT systems.
The state government also sees opportunities to explore future collaboration with ITDP Indonesia as part of efforts to further improve Selangor's public transport system.
The meeting was held in conjunction with the Selangor delegation's working visit to Jakarta, which was also attended by officials from the Selangor Economic Planning Unit, Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd, and the Petaling Jaya City Council.
