Suara Keadilan quoted the Selangor Menteri Besar as saying that the free online language classes are part of the State Government’s initiative to strengthen the people’s multilingual skills and to foster unity.

Amirudin added that the classes were first introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic by the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) in collaboration with language centres, with a fee of RM10. The programme received an encouraging response.

“Language is the strength that allows Malaysians to compete at the global level, not a cause of division.”

That’s why, starting next year, Selangor will offer Arabic, Mandarin, Tamil, French, German and Spanish classes online for free, so that residents in the state can be fluent in at least 3 languages, including Bahasa Melayu and English,” Amirudin said.

The Selangor Menteri Besar announced the free online language classes during the Selangor State Christmas 2025 celebration in 1 Utama, Petaling Jaya, on Sunday (14 December).
