SHAH ALAM, Oct 11 - The Selangor Jobcare Istimewa 2026 career carnival offers vulnerable groups opportunities to return to work, become independent and build their lives through jobs suited to their needs.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said these groups require specific support to re-enter the job market, allowing their potential to be harnessed for the state’s economic development.
He said vulnerable groups include not only persons with disabilities (OKU) and senior citizens, but also former prisoners, women returning to work after maternity leave, youths, Orang Asli and veterans.
“When we talk about those who need support, particularly OKU, senior citizens and those who have completed their prison sentences or former prisoners, they require different forms of support or greater understanding.
“That is why Jobcare Istimewa was introduced, unlike our usual Jobcare or career carnivals,” he said when officiating the Selangor Jobcare Istimewa 2026 career carnival at the MBSA Convention Centre here today.
Amirudin said government intervention is important to ensure that a job market based on free competition also provides opportunities and support for those facing barriers to employment.
“The needs of each group differ, including providing accessible working environments for OKU and opportunities for former prisoners to readjust to society.
“We also want to ensure that they are empowered, strengthened and able to overcome obstacles and challenges, live independently and with dignity. We also want them to contribute to society again.”
He said the initiative is in line with the Productive Human Capital mission under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), which emphasises developing capabilities and productivity across all segments of society.
Separately, Amirudin expressed his appreciation to the 40 employers participating in the programme and offering job opportunities to groups requiring additional support.
He said employers’ willingness to provide opportunities to these groups should serve as an example to other companies, even if doing so might require adjustments to operating costs and workplace environments.
“Private sector participation is important in building a caring society that provides more equal opportunities for everyone, including those facing physical, social or age-related barriers,” he said.
The Selangor Jobcare Istimewa 2026 career carnival, held today from 8am to 5pm at the MBSA Convention Centre, offered nearly 4,000 job vacancies, focusing on vulnerable groups while remaining open to the general public.
Participating employers include Prasarana Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Top Glove Corporation Bhd, AEON Co (M) Bhd, KL-Kepong Oleomas Sdn Bhd, 99 Speedmart and Wesports Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
