Selangor Sultan confers state’s highest honour to new daughter-in-law after her marriage to Tengku Amir Shah

The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Kelas Pertama Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS) to Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz, the consort to the Raja Muda Selangor.
The title was bestowed after her marriage to Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah was solemnised at Masjid Istana DiRaja, Istana Alam Shah, Klang today, in a private ceremony.

“With this conferment, the official title of the Raja Muda’s consort is Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz,” the Sultan’s private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, said in a statement.

Earlier, Bernama reported that crowds had gathered as early as 6am along the streets of Klang to witness the royal union. Tengku Amir Shah, dressed in white traditional attire and a songkok, was escorted in a Rolls-Royce A1 over a 650-metre route from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery to Istana Alam Shah. He was accompanied by members of the royal family and palace dignitaries, with the 25th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment serving as royal escorts, while the Selangor Royal Palace kompang troupe added to the celebration.

The procession began with a prayer recitation by the Grand Imam of Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, Datuk Muhammad Farhan Wijaya, seeking blessings for the solemnisation ceremony.

People of various races took the opportunity to capture the historic occasion, many dressed in traditional attire during the 20-minute parade.

A royal wedding reception and banquet will be held on Oct 22 in the palace’s Balairung Seri and Royal Banquet Hall.

Born on Dec 12, 1990, Tengku Amir Shah, 34, is the youngest child and only son of Sultan Sharafuddin. He was proclaimed Raja Muda of Selangor on May 3, 2002, at the age of 11, and was formally installed in October 2016.

A sustainability and urban forestry practitioner, Afzaa Fadini holds a Master of Arts in Sustainable Cities from King’s College London and a Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies and Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
