Selangor will hold a special meeting on Friday to coordinate aid for vulnerable groups and industry, following a federal-level briefing on the energy crisis.

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government will convene a special meeting this Friday to coordinate efforts to assist its people and industries amid the global energy crisis.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pic) said the meeting will focus on aiding vulnerable groups and ensuring effective support for the state’s industrial sector.

It follows a special meeting of all menteris besar and chief ministers with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to review federal government plans.

“Insya-Allah, the state government will make thorough preparations based on facts and the latest information to assist the people and the industrial sector in Selangor,” Amirudin said in a Facebook post.

He added that a special task force will be established, with regular meetings to ensure outlined measures are implemented effectively.

The announcement came after Amirudin convened a Special Roundtable Meeting of the State Executive Council to discuss the Middle East crisis and its economic impact.

That meeting brought together experts in economics, geopolitics and energy to present analysis and initial projections of the war’s impact.

Heads of several state government-owned subsidiaries directly involved in the crisis also attended.

“The purpose of the special roundtable meeting is to outline the work and main framework as part of the state’s preparedness in facing global uncertainties,” Amirudin explained.

He noted that Selangor contributes 26.2% to the country’s GDP, meaning any implications for the state directly impact the entire Malaysian economy.

Today’s efforts mark the beginning of several state-level actions to support initiatives led by the Federal Government.

Amirudin said the Selangor government has experience dealing with major challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and the December 2021 floods.

The state also managed a recovery from last year’s gas pipe explosion through cooperation between the government and the people.
