SHAH ALAM, July 18 — Selangor has been chosen to host the 22nd Malaysia Games (Sukma) and Para Sukma following the Sukma Supreme Committee meeting today.

The National Sports Council (MSN) said the 11th meeting was chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh at MSN’s headquarters in Bukit Jalil.

“The meeting officially confirmed that 488 events from 37 sports will be contested in the 21st Sukma, in Sarawak,” it said in a statement today.

MSN added that the 21st Sukma is set to make history by officially having the highest number of events contested by 15 competing contingents, surpassing the previous record of 426 events two years ago.

The games this year will run from August 17 to August 24.

Earlier today, Selangor Sports Council executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi said the state will be represented by 704 athletes and 213 officials at the 21st Sukma.

All athletes and officials, including coaches, were listed for the biennial Games before the registration deadline on July 5.

As part of the preparations, the athletes will be tested through a series of friendly competitions to measure their readiness for the Games.
