SHAH ALAM — Selangor will host the 20th edition of the Malaysian Games (Sukma) from August 15 to 24, 2026, with the Para Sukma to follow from September 5 to 14, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced today.

Speaking at a press conference, Amirudin said the official logo and mascot for both biennial events will be unveiled on August 15 this year, to mark the one-year countdown to the opening of Malaysia’s largest youth sports festival.

The 2026 Sukma will feature 28 core sports and five additional disciplines, while Para Sukma will include 10 core sports. Further details will be confirmed by the Sukma Supreme Council after its next meeting in early August.

Competitions will be held across nine districts and 12 local authorities in Selangor, with the exception of track cycling, which will take place at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

More than 10,000 athletes and officials from 15 state contingents — including a delegation from Brunei Darussalam — are expected to take part in the Games.

On Team Selangor’s preparations, Amirudin said any additional financial support would be based on recommendations from the Selangor Sports Council.

“As the host, our contingent bears a heavy responsibility to ensure the Games’ success and aims to reclaim the overall championship, as we did in 2006, 2013 and 2016. Selangor has consistently finished among the top four or five,” he said. — July 22, 2025
