Kota Kinabalu: Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Agriculture and Fishery Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan (pic) said Sabahans need to reclaim ownership of Malaysia from revisionists.

They must remember that the North Borneo Legislative Council bravely on Aug. 8, 1963 declared Aug. 31, 1963 as Sabah Independence Day, thereafter known as Sabah Day.

William Goode was cited as having said: “Today (Sabah Day August 31, 1963) is an historic day for Sabah. It marks the beginning of Self-Government and Independence and the end of Colonial Government.”

Dr Jeffrey: “This is our unilateral declaration of independence on August 8, 1963, although our founding fathers did not abandon their consensus with Tengku Abdul Rahman (Prime Minister of the Federation of Malaya) on the Malaysia project.”
