Semporna police solve eight break-in cases

SEMPORNA: Police here believe they have solved at least eight break-in cases following the arrest of a local man on Wednesday.

District Police Chief Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said they received a report on July 18 from a local that his house in Kampung Bubul had been broken into and items including a mobile phone, gold ring, documents and cash were stolen.

Acting on a tip, a team from the Crime Investigation Division of the Semporna police headquarters detained a 30-year-old man at 11pm at Dataran Lepa on July 19.

“Following the arrest, a motorcycle with a fake registration plate, a machete, scissors, sling bag, two wallets, three mobile phones and a watch were seized,” said Farhan.

Read more He added that two identification cards and five bank cards, jewellery and mobile phone pawn receipts were also seized.

“Further inspection on the suspect’s house in Kampung Bubul found two waist bags, two tabs and two mobile phones.

“On July 20, police also seized items including a gold ring and watch from several pawn shops, guided by the suspect,” he said.

With the arrest of the suspect who also tested positive for drugs, Farhan said, at least eight break-in cases in 2023 have been solved.
