Senate impeachment court resumes trial to tackle Duterte's confidential funds

MANILA, Philippines — The Senate impeachment court on Wednesday resumed the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte to tackle her alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds.

Prosecutors proceeded with the presentation of its witnesses in Impeachment Article 1 against Duterte, after her defense rejected a proposal to change the presentation of evidence per article.

The first article accuses Duterte of misusing P612.5 million in confidential funds during her tenure as vice president and, concurrently then, as secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).

The prosecution’s first witnesses are two former Land Bank of the Philippines branch managers — Violeta Constantin from the Shaw Boulevard branch and Nenita Camposano from the DepEd branch.

The two are expected to testify on the processing, documentation, and withdrawal of the confidential funds covered by the impeachment complaint.
