Senior citizen charged with making post contemptuous of court

SEPANG, April 21 - A 68-year-old man pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court today to a charge of making and initiating a social media post deemed contemptuous of the court in December last year.

Idris Mohamad entered the plea before Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman.

The father of two is charged with making and initiating a communication with the intention of annoying others via Facebook using the account “Idris Mohamad” on December 22, 2025.

The post was subsequently detected by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) at MCMC's Tower 1 in Cyberjaya at 3pm the following day.

The charge, framed under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, provides a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, as well as an additional fine of RM5,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.

The court allowed the accused bail of RM3,000 with one surety and fixed May 22 for mention.

MCMC prosecuting officer Nazrul Nizam Mohd Zameri appeared for the prosecution, while Idris was unrepresented.
