
A 68-year-old man denies charges of making a social media post deemed contemptuous of the court, facing potential fines and imprisonment.
SEPANG: A 68-year-old man pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to a charge of making a social media post deemed contemptuous of the court.
Idris Mohamad entered his plea before Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman.
The father of two is charged with making a communication via Facebook with the intention of annoying others on Dec 22, 2025.
The post was subsequently detected at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission in Cyberjaya the following day.
The charge is framed under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
It provides for a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both.
An additional fine of RM5,000 can be imposed for each day the offence continues after conviction.
The court allowed Idris bail of RM3,000 with one surety.
The case has been fixed for mention on May 22.
MCMC prosecuting officer Nazrul Nizam Mohd Zameri appeared for the prosecution.
The accused was unrepresented in court.
