STRASBOURG, Oct 20 — Former French Tennis Federation (FFT) vice-president Jean-Pierre Dartevelle has been charged with rape of a minor, sources told AFP on Wednesday.

In September 2018, the now 72-year-old was arrested on suspicion of having a “sordid” relationship with a 16-year-old tennis player, according to the source.

The victim is now 22 years old.

Former top-flight footballer Dartevelle, who played for Sochaux in the 1970s, was a member of the FFT’s board until February last year.

The investigating judge is set to decide on an eventual trial in the coming months. — AFP
