The Sessions Court has scheduled the case of Hafizul Harawi, suspected of involvement in the shooting at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1, for July 25. Magistrate Muhammad Bukhori Md Ruslan set the date after the prosecution requested a month to finalize the necessary documents. During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Farahin Sasaruddin indicated that additional time was needed, prompting the request for a new date. Hafizul Harawi's lawyer, Nik Azim Azlan, did not object to this request.
Hafizul Harawi, dressed in a T-shirt and white trousers, was brought to court at 9:10 am in a police vehicle. This appearance marked the first mention of the case since he was charged on April 25.
The first charge against Hafizul involves the attempted murder of 38-year-old businesswoman Farah Md Isa. The incident allegedly took place in the arrival hall of KLIA at 1:09 am on April 14. This charge falls under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential prison sentence of 10 years and a fine. If the act resulted in injury, the sentence could extend up to 20 years upon conviction.
The second charge against Hafizul accuses him of intentionally causing serious injury to Mohd Nur Hadith Zaini, also 38, using a firearm. This incident is said to have occurred at the same location, time, and date as the first charge. This charge is made under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which can result in a prison sentence of up to 20 years, along with a fine or whipping, if convicted.
Hafizul, a travel agency manager and father of seven, faces serious legal consequences if found guilty of these charges. The court proceedings on July 25 will continue to shed light on the case and the events leading up to the shooting incident at KLIA. As the prosecution and defense prepare their arguments, the details and evidence presented will be crucial in determining the outcome for Hafizul Harawi.
