Police detained seven Yemeni men, aged 23-26, over a dangerous car stunt on Jalan Sungai Besi that went viral, done to celebrate a friend’s wedding.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained seven Yemeni nationals to assist in investigations into an incident involving two cars being driven dangerously along Jalan Sungai Besi here early yesterday.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the men, aged between 23 and 26, were arrested in the capital and have since been released on police bail.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred at about 12.30 am on Aug 28 while the two vehicles were travelling along Jalan Sungai Besi towards Jalan Bukit Bintang.
“Passengers in both vehicles were seen leaning their bodies out and dangerously sitting on the window frames while the vehicles were in motion.
“Five of those detained are students at a public university in Kedah, while the other two are university graduates,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Zamzuri said police questioning revealed that the dangerous stunt was carried out merely for fun in celebration of a friend’s wedding.
The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for negligent or rash acts endangering human life or the personal safety of others.
Upon conviction, the offence carries a penalty of up to three months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM500, or both.
Members of the public or witnesses with information about the incident are urged to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station.
Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on social media, showing passengers in two cars leaning their bodies out and sitting on the window frames while the vehicles were being driven along Jalan Sungai Besi.
