Motorists travelling through Kajang town are advised to plan their journeys ahead as several major roads will be fully or partially closed from Aug 26 to 30 in conjunction with the 2026 Selangor state-level Merdeka Eve celebration.
The celebration is set to take place at Stadium Kajang on Sunday (Aug 30).
Several roads affected
According to Sin Chew Daily, Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said in a statement that police will close several major roads in the town centre according to the event and rehearsal schedules.
Jalan Mahkamah will be fully closed from Aug 26 until Aug 31.
Meanwhile, Jalan Cempaka Putih, Jalan Cempaka Kuning, Jalan Stadium and Jalan Cheras will be closed in stages on the following dates and times:
- Aug 28, from 8.30am to 10.30am for a rehearsal
- Aug 28, from 7pm to 11pm for a rehearsal
- Aug 29, from 7pm to 10pm for the full rehearsal
- Aug 30, from 8am until the event ends
Public advised to plan ahead
Naazron urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance and avoid the affected roads during the closures where possible to reduce congestion around the event venue.
Those attending the Selangor state-level Merdeka Eve celebration are also advised to follow instructions from police officers on duty and familiarise themselves with the event location and available parking areas beforehand.
