An argument over the price for performance footage turned messy after a Singaporean magician ‘baptised’ a videographer’s equipment with beer in a fit of anger.

Unfortunately, he had to pay a hefty price for his inability to control his emotions in the form of a S$6,000 (approx. RM19,200) fine.

Prior history of bad blood

As reported by Shin Min Daily News, the magician, Hong Weijie (transliteration) attended an event along with the videographer on May 15, 2025 at around 8:30pm.

While both of them were invited to the event, their working relationship wasn’t exactly in good terms as they had verbal altercations previously.

Poured beer on equipment

When Hong requested for the event’s raw footage from the videographer, things got tense when both of them were unable to agree on a price.

As such, this led to a fierce verbal argument between them.

Although some tried to intervene and calm the situation down, it proved to be futile as Hong grabbed a bottle of beer and poured it all over the videographer’s equipment.

This resulted in damages worth S$3,494.50 (approx. RM11,200), but the videographer was not able to fully account for the cost of all damages.

Fined and ordered to pay compensation

Hong was later taken to court by the videographer and pleaded guilty to one count of mischief on Nov 13.

He was fined S$6,000 and was ordered to pay another S$3,494.50 in compensation, which were substantiated by receipts.
