
The CIA-1 unit of Ambala Police arrested the accused in the Shahzadpur triple murder case after an exchange of fire on Tuesday night. The accused, identified as Abhishek, sustained bullet injuries in both legs during the encounter.
According to CIA-1 in-charge Harjinder Singh, the police team was patrolling in the Naraingarh area when personnel spotted the suspect riding a two-wheeler. On seeing the police team, the accused allegedly opened fire and attempted to flee through agricultural fields after abandoning his motorcycle near Paharipur village.
“While fleeing, he continued firing at the police party. He fired four rounds at the policemen,” Singh said.
In retaliation, the CIA personnel also opened fire, injuring the accused. A total of eight rounds were fired from both sides during the exchange.
Police recovered an illegal pistol along with live and empty cartridges from his possession. Officials said the same weapon was allegedly used in the murder of his family members.
The injured accused was initially taken to the Civil Hospital in Naraingarh and later referred to the Civil Hospital, Ambala City for further treatment.
Harjinder Singh said the accused had allegedly killed three members of his family in Bichpari village of Shahzadpur, while another woman sustained serious injuries.
The deceased were identified as his grandmother Ishro Devi, elder brother Sandeep and uncle Mahinder Singh. His aunt, Sunita Devi, was seriously injured in the attack.
Following the incident, Ambala SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat had constituted multiple teams to trace and arrest the accused.
Abhishek (22) is pursuing a pharmacy course through correspondence from a college in Panchkula. After allegedly committing the crime, he fled the village on a two-wheeler.
Police said his condition is stable. He will be formally arrested after discharge from hospital and produced before a court, following which police will seek his remand for further investigation.
