Shamsul Iskandar and Albert Tei face multiple bribery charges in Sessions Court today, following a six-day MACC remand.

KUALA LUMPUR: The former senior political secretary to the prime minister and a businessman will face corruption charges in the Sessions Court here today.

Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, 50, and Albert Tei, 37, are scheduled for mention before Judge Suzana Hussin at 9 am.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed yesterday that both individuals would face five charges at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

An additional charge will be brought against them at the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Friday.

The charges involve Section 17(a) of the MACC Act for receiving bribes and Section 17(b) for giving bribes.

Investigations were opened under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.

Shamsul Iskandar and Tei were remanded for six days beginning November 29 after the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court approved the MACC’s application.

The case concerns allegations that Tei bribed Shamsul Iskandar to recover funds reportedly distributed to several Sabah assemblymen. – Bernama
