MACC Will Soon Move to Question Former PM Aide, Businessman Over Bribery Allegations

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that it will soon summon a businessman, identified as Albert Tei, and former senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin for statements following allegations of bribery. The matter is being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009, which addresses offenses of soliciting or receiving gratification.

MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki stated that the agency will also reach out to all other individuals whose involvement may provide crucial evidence in the investigation.

The MACC announcement comes amid growing public attention after a letter written to the Hospital by the ex Aide to PM was discussed in the Parliament and consequently Shamsul had to resign. MACC has urged the public to refrain from speculation while the investigation is ongoing. However, the ex Aide shared on X (Formerly Twitter) that the resignation was tendered so that no one could tarnish the image of Madani Government.

Senior Director of MACC’s Intelligence Division, Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin, confirmed the the case is being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009.

The probe into Shamsul Iskandar, who is also the Melaka PKR state leadership council chairman, and the businessman reflects MACC’s continuing role in maintaining accountability in public administration, particularly regarding individuals who previously held positions of influence. By summoning both parties and relevant witnesses, the commission will seek to uncover any wrongdoing linked to the alleged bribery.

No further details regarding the exact nature of the alleged bribe or the circumstances surrounding it were disclosed. MACC’s statement underscores the importance of allowing investigators to operate without external pressure while ensuring that the process remains transparent and legally sound.

This development marks a significant move in Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to reinforce accountability and transparency in public office, particularly in cases involving former government aides and influential private actors.
