Can you imagine being in a relationship that isn’t built on love and affection, but on expectations…. on what we think love should look like?
According to #XUAN解忧树洞, there's a couple where the guy's turning 30 this year. Believe it or not, he said he never been in a relationship before and he always told himself that he would wait just to save his first love, his first time, for the woman he would marry. Later on, he met her. She was everything he would ever hoped for …. kind, genuine, and someone who understood him better than anyone else just like knowing him since. young. For the first time, he felt seen. Then, they dated for almost a year, never once fought, and even started talking about building a future together. He really thought she was the one.
Until one evening, a few months ago… she sat down and said she needed to tell him something. With tears in her eyes, she confessed that she’d been intimate with her ex …… a few times, back when they were together. She said it wasn’t casual; they were in love, and she believed that’s what couples do when they care for each other.
She admitted that she had hidden it because she was afraid of losing him. She knew how much he valued purity and didn’t want to ruin what they had. But as their relationship deepened, guilt began to eat away at her, and eventually, she chose to be honest. After listening to her confession, he didn’t know how to react, his mind went completely blank. It wasn’t anger over what she had done, but rather the realization that she had once told him, “We only held hands.” That small lie shattered something inside him. However, at the same time, he could feel her sincerity. She wasn’t proud of what happened; she just wanted to be honest. She trusted him enough to tell him the truth, even knowing it might change everything.
Since that day, he had been torn apart inside whether to ask for purity or love. By understanding that he actually love her deeply, but the thought of her being with someone else still stings. Some nights, he cry quietly beside her, replaying images he wish he could erase in his mind like never heard what she has confessed thinking that didn't happen at all. Yet when he wake up to her cooking breakfast, supporting him through his bad days, and loving him the way she does. He felt foolish for holding onto the past.
It’s like living between two hearts: one that forgives, and one that can’t forget. However, he don’t want to lose her, but he himself also don’t know how to heal from this. People love to say, “If you can’t accept the past, you don’t deserve the present.” But is it really that simple?
Can love truly overcome the ghosts of someone’s past or will this invisible wall slowly tear them apart?
