A viral Threads post showing a young worker handling an entire dessert outlet alone during peak hours has drawn praise, concern and criticism over staffing practices.
A post on the social media platform Threads by user @yuslida_othman has triggered widespread attention after she shared a video of a young employee managing an entire dessert outlet solo during a busy Sunday morning at a shopping mall.
The post, which has garnered 68,100 likes, over 2,300 comments and nearly one million views, captures the worker simultaneously handling cashiering duties, preparing waffles, serving customers, scooping ice cream and clearing tables.
“Dessert outlet in a shopping mall… Sunday morning, crowded… only one worker,” the user wrote, describing the scene with concern. “She’s the cashier, she makes the waffles, she delivers the food… it’s pitiful. She shouldn’t be alone. Customers felt sorry because of the long wait, but this girl was excellent—always smiling, kind and calm.”
The witness later added that the worker was even responsible for clearing plates and cleaning tables, describing the high-pressure environment she observed firsthand.
In a pinned update, yuslida clarified that she recorded the footage out of admiration for the worker’s professionalism.
“The purpose of recording was because I saw how capable she is; we are proud of her. At times, her hands seemed to shake and she paused briefly… which is understandable in a one-person operation. She remained mature and deserves praise.”
The post quickly drew a wave of support from the public. One user, dessertbyadam_, identified the worker as a friend, stating: “She’s very disciplined and even scored straight A’s in her exams. I’m very proud of her.”
Another user, afifahsyazwani_, thanked the poster for acknowledging the girl’s hard work, hoping the recognition would bring her joy.
However, the viral moment also ignited a broader debate regarding the gruelling realities of the Food and Beverage (F&B) industry.
“Working in F&B is exhausting. You only get one day off, and even then, you’re completely drained,” commented surayaahmad90, arguing that high turnover rates among youth are often due to burnout rather than a lack of resilience.
While the worker received accolades, the outlet’s management faced sharp criticism for perceived poor staffing.
“They should have scheduled at least two or three workers on weekends,” argued yourdailydose.me.
“One person on a weekday is understandable, but not during peak hours.” Others questioned the whereabouts of supervisors and managers, with brownbearcatererskualalumpur asking why no one stepped in to assist during the rush.
Amidst the debate, some netizens called for greater empathy from the public. “If you see a worker handling everything alone, please be patient,” wrote zeniejasnie. “Don’t act entitled; make things easier for everyone.”
