A business belonging to Sheffield United’s chairmen has been wound up by the High Court.
Legal action against COH Sports was brought by United World, the Championship side’s former owners.
American co-chairmen Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy lead COH Sports, which completed its acquisition of the club in December 2024.
United World, owned by Prince Abdullah bin Mosa’ad, submitted the petition last month over claims it is owed more than £35 million from the sale.
The matter was concluded in roughly 10 seconds at London's specialist Insolvency and Companies Court (ICC) on Wednesday.
Angus Groom, representing United World, sought the "usual compulsory order", which Judge Paul Greenwood granted.
A Sheffield United spokesperson said: “Sheffield United Football Club is aware of today’s hearing at the High Court.
“This is a matter between the current owners and former owner.
“The football club is in contact with the English Football League and the day-to-day operations at Sheffield United are unaffected.”
Sheffield United could face a 12-point deduction if the English Football League rules that ownership regulations were breached.
The club previously stated in June that Delaware-based 1919 Partners represents its parent business and "sits at the centre of the ownership structure".
An EFL spokesperson said: “The EFL notes the High Court’s decision to issue a winding up order on COH Sports Bidco Limited.
“The league will consider the implications of that development in line with its regulations, including whether any further action is required.
“In addition, the EFL continues to consider other regulatory matters following changes to the club’s ownership structure and developments within the wider group. As these issues remain ongoing, the EFL will make no further comment at this stage.”
Sheffield United were playing Premier League football just two years ago, and almost secured promotion back to the top-flight last year, only to lose to Sunderland in the Championship play-off final.
Last season was a disappointing one for the Blades as they finished down in 13th place after failing to challenge for a play-off spot.
They started this season with a 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Mansfield Town before being held to a goalless draw by Birmingham City at Bramall Lane on Saturday.
They are due to return to action this weekend when they face Swansea City away from home.
Chris Wilder’s side will be hoping to battle for promotion this season, but a point deduction would be a major setback for the club’s ambitions of achieving this aim.
