Kota Kinabalu: The general manager of Kaya Shipyard Sdn Bhd has lodged a police report to clarify that the hazardous gas incident involving an unconscious worker did not take place at his company’s premises, contrary to initial media reports.
H’ng Cong Wei, on Monday, said he was compelled to make the clarification after receiving numerous inquiries from concerned parties following Fire and Rescue Department reports that mistakenly identified his Sepanggar shipyard as the location of the incident.
“The Aug 20 incident did not happen at Kaya Shipyard Sdn Bhd KKIP Sepanggar,” H’ng said.
“The worker was found unconscious while on a fishing vessel. I have recorded evidence of the incident. After the incident, the vessel berthed in my company’s area.”He explained that while the emergency response was coordinated through his shipyard’s address, the actual incident occurred on the vessel itself, which later berthed at his premises.
H’ng added that this has caused confusion in media reports, resulting in his company being wrongly identified as the site where the worker was exposed to the toxic gas.
