Shocking doorbell camera footage captured the moment an Amazon delivery driver allegedly took a family’s beloved pet cat from outside their California home, leaving the owners devastated.
The incident happened on May 14 in Bakersfield, when a man wearing an Amazon uniform delivered a package to Brenda Wilson’s front porch. The video shows the driver setting the package down before being greeted by the family’s cat, Junie. Moments after petting her, the driver appears to pick up Junie and carry her back toward his truck.
“Utter disbelief…that anybody would have the nerve to do that. I’m just shocked,” Wilson told KGET.
The driver’s face is blurred in the footage shared by KGET, as it is not yet clear whether any crime was committed, the news outlet reported.
“Maybe he just really thought she was the most chill cat ever, and was just like, ‘hey, let me test it,'” Wilson said. “He kind of made a sound to her, and you can see that as he got closer, she meowed at him and was like, stranger danger, but I kind of wish she fought back. But that’s just not really in her nature.”
Wilson said her kids have had Junie since 2022. After discovering she was missing and reviewing the doorbell camera footage, Wilson filed a police report with local authorities.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office confirmed deputies are actively investigating the case, which authorities described as an apparent “theft of a cat,” according to KGET.
Wilson said she was told Amazon did not directly employ the delivery driver. In a statement to the station, an Amazon spokesperson said the company is investigating the incident and has already spoken with the driver and his employer. Amazon also said it plans to cooperate with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
Missing their beloved pet cat, Wilson said the driver could still do the right thing.
“They could just drop her off in the driveway,” Wilson said. “She knows what to do. She’ll come straight to the garage, get inside the house, and do what she has to do.”
