A dramatic series of events in Skudai, Johor, culminated in the deaths of four suspects and the arrest of five individuals connected to a high-profile kidnapping case involving a ransom of RM5.5 million. The intense situation unfolded following the abduction of a Chinese national and a local woman, who were held captive from July 11 until their release on July 15.

According to Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the Director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department, the two victims were seized after arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The pair were intercepted by an MPV shortly after leaving the airport. The abduction was reported by the man’s girlfriend, who had been unable to reach him.

The investigation, initially handled as a missing person case, evolved into a full-blown kidnapping inquiry once the victims were freed. The younger brother of one of the victims paid the ransom, which led to their release on the Pedas-Linggi road in Negeri Sembilan.

The first significant breakthrough in the case came on Thursday night. Police tracked a 51-year-old suspect, driving a Perodua Kelisa, on Jalan Skudai-Gelang Patah. Upon realizing he was being followed, the suspect attempted to flee and engaged in a gunfight with the police. Officers managed to return fire, killing the suspect on the spot. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a firearm, and it was revealed that the deceased had a troubling criminal background, including prior drug offenses and a detention order under the Crime Prevention Act.

The investigation continued into the early hours of Friday morning when police executed a raid on a residence in Taman Impian Emas, Skudai. Upon arrival, the police announced their presence and attempted to gain entry but were met with resistance. As they breached the property, they were met with gunfire from several rooms. In the ensuing confrontation, three men, aged 35, 39, and 45, were shot and killed by police. Authorities recovered a machete and two pistols from the scene.

Following this raid, four additional raids were conducted throughout the state, resulting in the arrest of five suspects, including a woman. These individuals, aged between 25 and 43, were all local residents. Among them, two men were found to have previous criminal records. Police confiscated three revolver-type pistols and a long machete during these operations.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which deals with attempted murder. Although significant progress has been made, including the recovery of various weapons and arrests, the whereabouts of the RM5.5 million ransom remains under investigation.

Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily emphasized the complexity and scale of the operation, which involved a multi-faceted police response and a series of strategic raids. The case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling organized crime and ensuring justice for victims of high-stakes kidnappings.
