SHAH ALAM – Malaysian entrepreneurs are turning local craftsmanship, creativity and changing consumer needs into thriving businesses, reflecting the country’s diversity and resourcefulness.
In conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day, Shopee launches its Juara Lokal campaign, recognising 31 local entrepreneurs whose business journeys highlight the resilience, ambition and ingenuity of Malaysian businesses.
The inaugural cohort brings together sellers from various states and diverse business categories, carefully chosen for their resilience, distinct stories and solid track records on the platform.
Through a dedicated digital showcase, shoppers can explore the people and products behind these inspiring businesses all in one curated destination.
Shopee is also rolling out an engaging interview-led video series featuring prominent local figures, including Emilhan Mokhtar of Kita Shop Sabah, Satish Raguchandran of Russell Taylors, Natasha Mah and Samantha Mah of Love Earth Organic and Datuk Kamarudin Meranun of MILKTM.
These episodes dive deep into the challenges, milestones and personal journeys that shaped their success, rolling out progressively on Shopee Malaysia's Instagram and YouTube channels leading up to Malaysia Day.
Personal touch points run deep among the featured founders.
Emilhan traces the roots of Kita Shop Sabah back to his childhood days helping out at local tamu markets.
He expressed immense pride in carrying the flag for Sabahan culture, people and artistry through his recognition as a Juara.
“Being recognised as a Juara makes me immensely proud to represent the people, culture and craftsmanship of Sabah”, he said.
He noted that leveraging e-commerce allowed him to introduce genuine Sabahan pearl crafts to a nationwide audience, expand his workforce and successfully transition from a purely online venture into a brick-and-mortar retail store.
Meanwhile, other brands like Love Earth Organic were born from deeply personal experiences.
Co-founders Samantha and Natasha Mah were inspired to make organic, healthy food accessible to Malaysian families after watching loved ones battle health challenges.
“Losing loved ones to cancer made us realise how important the choices we make every day can be, especially the food we put on our plates”, Samantha said.
Shopee Malaysia Head of Public Policy and External Affairs Nik Emir Nik Din said each local enterprise embodies a uniquely Malaysian narrative driven by personal background, regional insight and a resolute drive to create something of value.
“Behind every homegrown business is a distinctly Malaysian story, shaped by personal experience, local knowledge and the determination to build something meaningful.
“These businesses grow, they create employment opportunities and open new avenues for Malaysian products and traditions and reach customers beyond their immediate markets”, he said.
Nik Emir added that as these companies scale up, they generate job openings and pave fresh pathways for traditional and local products to connect with audiences far outside their local areas.
By celebrating the 31 unique entrepreneurial journeys in Juara Lokal, Shopee hopes to inspire the next generation of sellers to carve out their own paths and find success on their own terms.
Malaysians are invited to discover and support these inspiring champions by visiting the official Juara Lokal page on Shopee.
