
SHAH ALAM - Shoppers at Kompleks PKNS in Section 14 here were startled on Tuesday when smoke filled parts of the building following a fire in an air-conditioning system room.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ashrul Riezal Asbar confirmed that the incident involved an air handling unit (AHU) room on the first floor of the shopping complex.

“The operations commander reported that the fire involved an air-conditioning room on the first floor of the building. Overhaul works are being carried out and estimated damage is 70 per cent.
“The fire involved a 7x7 square-foot AHU room. Overhaul and ventilation work are still being carried out by personnel at the location,” he said.
The department received an emergency call at 2.53pm and immediately deployed firefighters from the Shah Alam Fire and Rescue Station, located about seven kilometres away from the site.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported among workers or shoppers during the incident.
The fire had earlier gone viral on social media, with visitors reporting they were ordered to evacuate after smoke began spreading through the retail area, causing panic.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
