Signal No. 1 up in Batanes, Cagayan as Typhoon Francisco intensifies

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Monday raised Signal No. 1 over Batanes and the northeastern portion of Cagayan (Gonzaga, Santa Ana) including the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands, as Typhoon Francisco gained strength.

Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said that “Francisco” was estimated 715 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan while moving west-northwestward at 30 kilometers per hour (kph).

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.

The typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday.

Meanwhile, Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the effects of the southwest monsoon.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will likely have partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
