Kota Kinabalu: Domestic tourism in Sabah experienced a significant rise in the number of visitor arrivals and total receipts in 2022, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia’s (DOSM) Domestic Tourism Survey Sabah Report 2022.
Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, in the report released recently, said the rise was due to the increase in trips made by residents of Malaysia after struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.
“The number of domestic visitor arrivals in Sabah increased 230 per cent compared to 2021, which registered 12.59 million visitors (2021: 3.82 million visitors),” he said.
He added that the number of trips recorded in 2022 increased to 17.26 million compared to 4.01 million visits in 2021.
