Simpang Renggam tragedy: Teenager released on police bail

A TEENAGER who was earlier remanded in connection with a fatal accident that claimed five lives, including four members of a family, on Jalan Renggam-Simpang Renggam has been released on police bail while awaiting court charges.

The remand period for the 19-year-old suspect, which was extended by two days on Monday, ended yesterday.

Kluang Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh, said police received instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor to grant bail to the suspect until the investigation is complete.

The suspect was remanded since June 2, before the remand was extended under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

However, as soon as the extended remand period ended, the police re-arrested the suspect last Thursday and re-remanded him under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The suspect was the driver of a Mercedes-Benz A250, while his 22-year-old brother was driving a BMW 530e, who also drove recklessly and dangerously, causing the accident.

Those who died in the accident were Semek Mat Soh, 73; his daughter Nor Azlina Abd Latip, 33; his son-in-law, Aiman Mohd Rashid, 36, as well as Aiman's niece, Nur Airish Syifa Sidek, 10.

The suspect's brother was confirmed dead on the way to the hospital for treatment. – June 10, 2026
