Always hear that pun ‘scream for ice cream’ all the time and that joke never dies down, right? Because scream rhymes with ice cream so the joke never really goes away, it goes on for ages that it becomes more of a joke back in the day when memes were either still new or just about to grow as time went on.

Mcdonalds in Singapore absolutely had the right idea to let the people know how important it is for that sweet pursuit of creamy, cold sweet treat. Plus, nothing can ever go wrong with getting that affordable vanilla or chocolate soft serve, strawberry and chocolate sundaes and a variety of their regular to seasonal McFlurry flavors.
Following a campaign of ‘You scream, I scream, everyone scream for ice cream’ in Mcdonalds offering free Hershey’s ice cream cones for anyone who raised or in this context, scream their voice loud enough for the digital board to detect, located at the soft serve booth in Funan Mall.
The marketing giveaway campaign begun from August 29 to August 31 raised to quick fame as it allowed people to express themselves and let loose their loudest scream in public, with the common awareness that the motive still stands that it is for the sake of redeeming ‘free ice cream’. Who doesn’t love a giveaway, right?
The catch was not only that the digital board had to really catch the volume of the loud scream to qualify the person for a free treat, but it also meant to be put under the public spotlight for the deed, thus earning stares and public amusement at best.
A 13-second Tiktok video compiled different scenes of different people screaming outside the Mcdonald’s outlet in Funan, garnering entertaining reactions. One student went above and beyond the screaming meter to the point that the digital board was quick to pick up his screams within seconds.
Ice cream will always be one of the best treats for the chill sweet craving on a hot day and a simple yet delicious cold treat. Proven by this marketing gimmick, it was a good way to burst out all that stress and still get rewarded.
We’ll never know if Malaysia’s McDonald’s would implement such a thing but we might see it in the future!
