KOTA KINABALU: A 26-year-old single mother was fined a total of RM4,000 by the Sessions Court here for possessing unregistered products and cosmetics without notification.

Judge Zaini Fishir imposed the sentence on Khairunisa Anastasha Rozlee after she pleaded guilty to two charges.

On the first charge, Khairunisa was fined RM2,000, or 30 days’ jail in default, for possessing 16 products not registered with the Ministry of Health at 2.05pm on Sept 27, 2024, at Lisa Queen Empire, KK Taipan, Jalan Tuaran, near here.

She was also fined another RM2,000, or 30 days’ jail in default, on the second charge for having 15 types of cosmetics without notification at the same place and time, with the offences punishable under Regulation 7(1)(a) of the Control of Drugs and Cosmetic Regulations 1984.

In mitigation, Khairunisa, who was unrepresented, sought leniency citing her financial responsibilities as a single mother, while the prosecution said a total of 31 products confirmed unregistered with the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Division valued at RM11,076 were seized and posed potential risks to public safety.
