Philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, also fondly known as ‘Uncle Kentang’ among Malaysians, has pleaded with the public to come to the aid of an impoverished family living in Batu Caves.
In a Facebook post, he wrote that an Indian-Muslim family was facing deep poverty, with a single mother of 27 years old left to care for herself and her five kids aged seven, five, three, 18 months and 3 months respectively.

Kuan also said the family doesn’t have gas running in the home and that they were behind on their RM900 monthly rent, putting them at risk of being forced to move out.
However, the most heartbreaking detail was concerning the three-month old child, who’s been fed with only ‘Teh O’ (black tea) and is severely malnourished as the mother is unable to afford milk formula.
Kuan called upon Malaysians who wish to help the family by buying milk formula, gas, and groceries to reach out to him personally at 019-231 6666.

Criticism
While there were a handful of netizens who expressed sympathy over the family’s plight, some slammed the mother for failing to practice birth control and putting unnecessary strain on the family.

Meanwhile, some suggested that Kuan seek help from the relevant authorities to secure financial aid for the family.
