As an alumnus of the Asian Institute of Management, Manila, I understand there are 82 provincial governments headed by the governors, as the chief executive. Following which there are 149 city mayors in the Philippines, corresponding to the country's 149 total cities as tracked by the Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA). Breakdown of Philippines Cities and Mayors comprises of (1) 33 mayors for Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs); (2) Independent Component Cities (ICCs); 5 mayors; (3) Component Cities: 111 mayors; making the Total City Mayors: 149. In addition to these city mayors, the local government structure also includes 1,493 municipal mayors heading the regular towns across the country. The City Mayor serves as the chief executive of a city government in the Philippines. Under the Local Government Code of 1991, the mayor holds the primary responsibility for implementing laws, managing city operations, financial administration and public welfare. (https://pclj.org)
Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman is the incumbent Mayor of Isabela City, in Basilan Province, serving her third and final term. She has consistently been recognized under the national and regional assessments as one of the top-performing local chief executive in the Philippines. In the nationwide RPMD “Bosses ng Bayan” survey, Mayor Sitti achieved a spot among the Top 8 Performing City Mayors in the Philippines, scoring an 82.16% performance rating. She has also been named the Top Performing, Most Trusted City Mayor in the Philippines award from the Media People's Choice Awards. She is recognized as a Kaya Natin! Champion of Good Governance for her ethical, transparent and inclusive leadership. Under her leadership, Isabela City received the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) and she was officially named a 2026 Gawad Pagasa Regional Qualifier by the Civil Service Commission.
I have known Mayor Sitti who is an eminent alumna of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM). My wife, Zarina and I have visited a few times the greenery City of Isabela under her administration.
